One way to use “tres” is to talk about the number three. For example, you can use it to say how many pets you have or how many items you have. For example:

• Tengo tres perros (I have three dogs)
• Tengo tres cosas que hacer (I have three things to do)

3 in Spanish – Third Item & Three Parts/Pieces

Another way to use “tres” is to talk about the third item in a list. For example:

• El tercer artículo en mi lista de compras es una camisa (The third item on my shopping list is a shirt)

“Tres” can also be used to describe something that has three parts or pieces. For example:

• Este rompecabezas tiene tres piezas pequeñas (This puzzle has three small pieces)

3 in Spanish – Plural

The plural form of “tres” is “tres” for both masculine and feminine nouns. For example:

• Tengo tres lápices (I have three pencils) Tengo tres manzanas (I have three apples)

Ordinal Number of Tres

In addition to being a cardinal number, “tres” can also be an ordinal number. The ordinal form of “tres” is “tercero” for masculine nouns and “tercera” for feminine nouns. For example:

• El tercer piso (the third floor) La tercera semana (the third week)
