The Months of the Year in Spanish
In Spanish, the months of the year are:
- enero (January)
- febrero (February)
- marzo (March)
- abril (April)
- mayo (May)
- junio (June)
- julio (July)
- agosto (August)
- septiembre (September)
- octubre (October)
- noviembre (November)
- diciembre (December)
It’s important to memorize these words so you can talk about dates and events that happen during different months.
Expressing the Months of the Year in the Present Tense
To express the months of the year in the present tense, you can simply use the name of the month. For example:
- “en enero” (in January)
- “en diciembre” (in December)
You can also use the word “este” (this) before the month to express that something is happening in the current month. For example:
- “Este mes es agosto” (This month is August)
Using the Months of the Year with Time Expressions
To express a specific date in Spanish, you can use the preposition “en” (on) followed by the day of the week and the month. For example:
- “El lunes en marzo”
(On Monday in March) - “El jueves en diciembre”
(On Thursday in December)
You can also use the word “el” (the) before the day of the week to express that something is happening on a regular basis. For example:
- “El viernes siempre voy al cine” (On Fridays I always go to the movies)

Months of the Year and Common Verbs
There are many common verbs that you can use with the months of the year in Spanish. Some examples include:
- “esperar” (to wait)
- “planear” (to plan)
- “celebrar” (to celebrate)
- “viajar” (to travel)
- “trabajar” (to work)
For example:
- “Esperamos hasta junio para ir de vacaciones”
(We wait until June to go on vacation) - “Planear una fiesta en abril”
(To plan a party in April)
Months of the Year and Common Adjectives
In Spanish, you can also use the months of the year with common adjectives to describe events or situations. For example, you can say:
- “El mes de enero es frío”
(The month of January is cold) - “Mi cumpleaños es en julio”
(My birthday is in July)
You can also use the months of the year with the adjective “próximo” (next) to talk about future events, such as:
- “El próximo mes de octubre voy a viajar a España”
(Next October, I am going to travel to Spain)
