Spanish verbs need to be conjunct depending on who does the action. For every pronoun there is a different ending, however it is easier than it seems. Let’s begin!
So, the first thing you need to know: there are 3 groups of verbs. Every group has different ending:
- -ar
- -er
- -ir
To find out to which group the verb belongs we just need to look at it’s ending. For example, we see verb “hablar”. The last two letters are “ar”, therefore, it belongs to the first group.
Then, we need to know the pronouns and forms for every person.
The pronouns:
• Yo — I
• Tú — you [singular informal]
• Usted — you [singular formal]
• Él,ella — he, she
• Nosotros,nosotras — we
• Vosotros,vosotras — you [plural informal]
• Ustedes — you [plural formal]
• Ellos,ellas — them
Now let’s see the table of endings for the pronouns: they will be different depending on the group!
- -ar:
| yo | -o | hablo |
| tú | -as | hablas |
| usted, él, ella | -a | habla |
| nosotros/as | -amos | hablamos |
| vosotros/as | -áis | habláis |
| ustedes, ellos, ellas | -an | hablan |
- -er:
| yo | -o | como |
| tú | -es | comes |
| usted, él, ella | -e | come |
| nosotros/as | -emos | comemos |
| vosotros/as | -éis | coméis |
| ustedes, ellos, ellas | -en | comen |
- -ir:
| yo | -o | vivo |
| tú | -es | vives |
| usted, él, ella | -e | vive |
| nosotros/as | -imos | vivimos |
| vosotros/as | -ís | vivís |
| ustedes, ellos, ellas | -en | viven |
Fine! We have all the needed material together. We can start✨
These are the steps:
- Choose a verb and find out to which group it belongs
For example, I choose “escribir”. The ending is “ir”. It is the 3rd group. - Choose the pronoun
In my case it will be “I”. I go to pronouns, see that it is “Yo” in Spanish. - Put them together
Yo + escribir = Yo escribir - Remove the ending
As we determined escribir is the “ir” group. So, I simply remover the “ir” ending.
The result: Yo escribir – ir = Yo escrib - Choose a corresponding ending
For this you need to check the table. So I go to it, look at “Yo” ending and see that it is “o”. Thus, I add “o”.
Yo escrib + o = Yo escribo
That’s it!
